Rick's Story | About the House
Rick's Story
My family and I (my wife, Darcy and two daughters, Kristi and Rikki who are
17 and 18 respectively) have enjoyed coming here to get away from the hustle
and bustle of the states. When we come down here, life just seems to slow
down and we realize how little we get by with and still be happy...in fact, we're
happier than we ever are in states with all of the trappings of the modern
world.
It has been a life-time dream of mine to own my own beachfront property in
paradise. After more than thirty years, this dream came true. After
spending more than a decade in Mexico, I happened upon Costa Rica after
prodding from a Costa Rican friend from college. After going to Costa Rica
one time...no more Mexico for me. To make a long story short, I found
paradise and promptly bought a piece of it: beautiful Casa Dulce.
My family and I have been coming to Costa Rica since 1986 and we have owned
the property since 1991. We love coming here for our summer and winter
breaks and have been doing so for over 15 years now.
We love to come down here and totally "down-shift" into the relaxing
third-world mentality..."mañana, mañana." That basically means, don't worry
about getting it all done today...there is always tomorrow.
We love the peaceful sound of the tide coming in and out four times a day.
It's an incredible sight to see the bay full of water one minute and
then, a few hours later, you're walking on dry land, observing the ocean
bottom and all its wonders.
We love to watch the sun-rise each morning as it peers over the mountain
tops of near-by Panama. On clear days, you can see the volcano top in
Panama. The start of each day is always a pleasure, watching the world spin
by with not a care in the world except for thinking if you put on enough
sun-screen.
Our house has all we need: a wide-open sandy beach for sun bathing and
swimming, a lush green lawn surrounding our casa, beautiful ornamental
gardens, hammocks by the pool-side, ping-pong table, horseshoe pits and even
our very own waterfall that empties into the pool.
We love dipping in the pool anytime we feel like it, or tanning on the
tanning ledge while sipping a refreshing beverage of our choice.
We love the wildlife that is abundant within our yard and surrounding area.
We love walking to the two closest waterfalls to take a refreshing dip and
enjoying nature's natural air conditioner as water plummets more than 75 feet
down the cliff.
We love walking in the jungle with the monkeys, parrots, sloths, butterflies
and many other creatures scampering about. It's like taking a walk in
National Geographic magazine.
One of the things we love the most about coming down here is "family time"
When we are in the states, everyone is so busy, we hardly ever see each
other, much less take the time to sit down together to do a puzzle, play a
board game, or just talk with one another. That's probably my favorite
reason for coming to Casa Dulce: being with my family and just enjoying
each other's company.
Give Casa Dulce a chance, and you'll come back renewed, relaxed and refreshed with a new outlook on your day to day life. We know you'll love making it your home away from home, just as we have. We welcome you!
About the House
Our house is a traditional "open-air" rancho design. The only thing
lacking is the thatched-palm leaf roof (but the sound of rain on a metal
roof is way more pleasing than the sound of damp leaves, and the metal roof
is not nearly as messy. The design is loft-style with two sleeping areas
upstairs and one downstairs. (More sleeping areas to come in the near
future as a new second story area is being added...this will accomodate
mucho hammocks for the total tropical experience!) There is a full kitchen
complete with stove, refrigerator, hot water and all cooking utensils.
There is a dry-room lock-up for valuables such as cameras and wallets,
etc...
The sleeping accommodations are simple. The beds are all double size with mosquito
net canopies over each. Each bed has its own reading light and fan.
The living room adjoins the kitchen area with a couch and easy chair. The
kitchen has a nice family table (seating for four)...all with a beautiful
view of the ocean.
The front porch is the highlight of the house with its beautiful Cristobel
bar and bar stools overlooking the pool and kitchen area. Imagine sitting
by the pool, watching the breakers roll in while catching a glimpse of the
scarlet macaws flying overhead and the monkeys scampering by to get coconuts
from the trees on the beach. It's paradise found.
The accommodations are simple, but so is the lifestyle.
Come to relax and enjoy the solitude of the private two-acre preserve!
